BMW has intentions to recall the N20 and N26 engines. BMW Blog says " The oil supply via the intake camshaft to the vacuum pump could become restricted. If this were to occur, the vacuum pump could fail due to lack of lubrication, resulting in a loss of power brake assist."
The cars included are:
F30 320/328
F10 528
X1/X3 xDrive28i/sDrive28i
Z4 sDrive28i
Cars affected were made from March 2012 to June 2013. For more info, visit BMW Blog:

It would have been way cooler if the issue lead to the steering wheel losing power assist. I wonder how the cars with electric power steering would feel if the only thing powering the wheel was your own hands...

Lol. Your car still has hydraulic boost though. But you're probably right, no power steering would feel similar to your car since the E9X had such stiff steering. I have an E90 M3 and it definitely has a low amount of hydraulic boost.

I want a classic 911. Nothing cooler than a car with no power steering and no engine up front. The lack of weight on the front end creates the most natural steering assist possible.
